Michael Freeman

Grammy Award and Blues Music Award winning Producer/Engineer Michael Freeman began his career in the recording industry in the late 1970’s as a studio manager and later Vice President, General Manager and Chief Engineer of the Hedden West Studios (later named Remington Road Studios) in the suburbs of Chicago.

A transplant from London, England, he ventured out in 1986 as a freelance Producer/Engineer and to date has amassed a diverse and award winning discography in a variety of genres having worked on over 200 albums, garnering three Grammy Nominations and one Grammy Award, three WC Handy/Blues Music Award nominations and one Blues Music Award and was a recipient of a Keeping The Blues Alive Award in 2011 from The Blues Foundation. 

He is a highly respected member of the Chicago recording community, currently sitting as a returning Governor and a former Chapter President and National Trustee for the Chicago Chapter of the Recording Academy, and as a past member of the Academy’s Producer and Engineer’s Wing Advisory Council. He is adjunct faculty at Columbia College Chicago teaching Master Classes in recording and is also a founder member of EARS, the Engineering and Recording Society of Chicago. He serves as a member of AES, The Audio Engineering Society and The Blues Foundation on whose Board he sits as a Director.
